for your information I'm now at Tennant Creek( 1000km from my starting point), so I have to update my blog and put the pictures of the last 4 days, I don't have time now to put more pictures because I have to buy my food and to fix my bike...in a word, I have to prepare myself to start again after a day off in this town. I should be in Alice spring in 5 days and I have have more time because I will take 2 days off.

thank you.

day off at Mataranka

an italian met at Mataranka and myself swimming in the river....with crocodiles....

so good the thermal pools.
natural spring...33 c....amazing.
that's what I call a day off...I spent all the day with people met in the thermal pools swimming and have a nice time. ( a couple of italian, another from Melbourne and 3 german girls)

on my way until Mataranka

now I was on my way to go to Katherine and thinking It will be a nice place to have a rest a day, I stopped first at pine creek and the day after I was able to ride almost 100 km to reach Katherine. I didn't really enjoy this town even if I toke a bed in a backpackers, I had a very bad night. I met few frenchies. I woke up with the idea of doing just a ride of 60 km, a kind of rest. but after a rest on the side of the road where I met bill and his dog, he offered me a cup of coffee and I felt better I decided to continue my travel. I arrived to Mataranka very late , around 10 pm with my right knee very painful. Tomorrow I will have a rest in the village.

Acacia Roadhouse- Hayes Creek

Karin trying my bike...well done.

a good guinness and I'm getting better.
an eagle on my way....waiting my death?
adelaide river station, I think I can wait for a while the next train.
i woke up at 5 am and left the road house at 7 am...ready for a ride. my goal was to sleep in the bush because the next stop was to close and after it was a bit far but when I reached adelaide river after a ride of 65 km, I had a big rest and I thought I was able to go to the next point, 55 km after Adelaide river, the hayes creek roadhouse. I came exhausted after 120 km. and but I was not expecting a such services at this stop. what a pleasure to see few peoples and 2 very friendly swedish girls as waitress. You can be sure that after a long and hard drive, it's very pleasant to meet some nice young people and not just some truck drivers...

first stop after Darwin Acacia Roadhouse

after starting my trip at 6 AM I reached without trouble my first stop, 65 km from Darwin, the Acacia Roadhouse. easy ride but I had the feeling of wasting my time because I came to this place very early, around 10 AM and it was just the end of my cycling day...I will have to rule a bit more my trip but that's a normal way for a beginning ...and a beginner.

Reasons of this challenge ( because it is one)

the first one is probably because The Northern Territory's alcohol consumption rate is one of the highest in the world, and certainly the highest in Australia. In 2001 the alcohol consumption rate was estimated at 1120 standart drinks per person per year.

So I'm going to travel across the Nothern Territory to show its population than they are not the first alcohol consumption rate but it's definitly Britanny and it's Bretons (I am one of them)

No i'm kidding

I want to enjoy Australia and I didn't want to be a lazy tourist who just catchs a plane to go into the differents cities or rents a van increasing by that way the highest greenhouses gases' rate per person in the world. So I want to be an ecological tourist conscient of the australians problems as drought or pollution.

I will have to carry with me about 12 liters of water and I will have to learn how save this precious things which is water. That will be my life insurance.

finally, I want to do something I never did before (there are a lot, I know.)
I don't have any experiences in bike ride and that's a real challenge for me.

australian biking: that's my trip

After almost 4 months working in Melbourne, I wanted to enjoy a bit more my stay in this country. I decided something which looks crazy for most of Australian people and probably for most people anywhere. I will do that:

start: 10th of August
6 weeks
4000 kilometers
1 bike
12 liters of water
12 kg of stuffs
and me.....

I'm going to across Australia starting by the north and my goal is to reach Melbourne in 6 weeks of time.
I will travel most of my journey on the famous stuart highway sleeping in some roadhouses or in the middle of the desert with my tent and my sleeping bag. I should precise during the night, the tempature goes under 0°C, arround -5°C, that's for the desert.
I will have with me my best friend and my girlfriend:
best friend: my bike.
girlfriend: my water.

I will travel in 3 australian states: Northern territory, South Australia and Victoria
I will try to update my blog the more often I can.
